The Three Ninja Pigs by Corey Rosen Schwartz
Target Grade Level: K-3
Young students will enjoy connecting this book to other stories about the three little pigs. A bulletin board display can be created by using many different Three Little Pig book jackets (or images of) such as: The Three Little Javelinas by Susan Lowell, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka, The Three Little Pigs by James Marshall, The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig by Eugene Trivizas. An anchor chart about the elements of fractured fairy tales would be displayed with the book jackets.
During library time, Three Little Pig centers could be out for students to explore retelling the story or creating their own version - finger puppets, a felt board set, a Play-doh three little pigs set, and a puzzle. Many are pictured below. On YouTube, students can watch the Fractured Fairy Tales episode of The Three Little Pigs to compare/contrast it with other versions of the story. Seeing many different versions of the same story will cause students to be interested in different versions of fairy tales.
